The Interactive Internet & Mobile Applications for Government (iima4gov) program is hosting an informative conference Tuesday, September 13, at the Sacramento Convention Center. This event is designed to help legislative staff understand social media and become proficient in its use.
The conference is funded by the Interactive Internet & Mobile Applications for Business (iima4biz) Initiative of the Economic & Workforce Development Program of the California Community Colleges.
Several key topics of particular interest to legislative staffers will be addressed. Subjects include current practices, methods of change, and the new opportunities in communication that every legislator's offices should be ready to implement.
The Economic & Workforce Development Program of the California Community Colleges, through the iima4biz Initiative, have developed this educational conference specifically for the legislative staff of the State of California, and reflects the unique issues they face. Four top experts were selected to address these issues with an in-depth presentation. Then you can access their experience during the discussion panel, hosted by moderator Mike Spence, Chief of Staff, Assemblyman Curt Hagman. He is a Governing Board member of the West Covinia Unified School District and correspondent for the popular FlashReport weblog.

Marci Harris, CEO POPVOX.com, is an entrepreneur, attorney, and former Congressional Staffer. She is working on a project to amplify and quantify citizen engagement @popvox. She served as Tax, Trade, and Health Counsel to Pete Stark, then-Chairman of the Health Subcommittee of Ways and Means, and was Committee lead for Medicare Program Integrity and Physician Payments Sunshine provisions of the House health reform bill. She holds a JD from the University of Memphis and an LL.M from American University's Washington College of Law.
Josh Shpayher is an attorney with a passion for cataloging the joining of government and social media on his wiki GovSM.com, a website that tracks how government uses social media. He earned his J.D. in 2007 and worked as a fellow on Capitol Hill and for a lobby firm in New York. GovSM has been featured in numerous national publications and Josh has written for the Washington Post, appeared as a guest on Sirius/XM radio and has begun speaking and consulting to various government organizations and businesses.
Kerry Rego, owner Kerry Rego Consulting, is a Social Media and Educator/Trainer, Organization and Efficiency Specialist, and speaker. She helps people and businesses identify and implement the tools to make their lives easier. Kerry has been using social media and technology, organization and efficiency, as well as speaking and educating, since 2006. She has degrees in Software Applications and Computerized Business, and her clients have included small and medium businesses, large corporations, government agencies and individuals trying to get their arms around their busy lives.
Ariel Coro, host Tu Tecnología, is the leading technology expert for the Hispanic community. Tu Tecnología is a Spanish language broadcast TV segment that educates Hispanic families on the latest gadgets and consumer electronic products in an entertaining and informative way. He is also a regular contributor for Univision and has appeared on CNN, Telemundo, Mega TV, and TVAzteca among others, and has been invited to participate in Sábado Gigante and Despierta América to provide his informative and entertaining technological expertise.
